SUMMARY OF INSTRUCTIONS AND HOMILIES
DURING NOVEMBER 6, 2004,
RETREAT AT THE SHRINE OF THE MOST BLESSED SACRAMENT

SATURDAY MORNING MASS HOMILY – FATHER MIGUEL

No servant can serve two masters. All of us are servants.  We have one Master, one boss
Whom we serve, the King of Kings, Lord of Lords. God is our Master. How frequent we are in living a double life, one part for God and one part to another.

The Lord uses a very strong term to describe the "abomination". The expression conveys His disgust of the Pharisees. God can read man's heart. We should strive to purify our intentions. All of our actions should be oriented to the glory of God. Do all for the glory of God. No servant can serve two masters. If we are dedicated to God's service, we are not paying any attention to criticism.

Let us ask our Blessed Mother on this First Saturday to teach us how to live entirely for God's glory - with that single pure intention to serve God alone.

SATURDAY MORNING INSTRUCTION – FATHER JOSEPH

Being associated with Mother Angelica for about 20 years, it has been an adventure. Being associated with Mother takes a lot of risks. Father told us how he came to EWTN as an engineer to do some work. He spoke about the new monastery. It took five years to build the monastery. It is a consecrated place set apart from the world.

Many conversions have taken place here in the confessionals. So many miracles have taken place. The Lord's grace is at work and forming us, rescuing us again and again and keeping us on the road of eternal life. There have been some physical miracles as well. Father told of Mother's healing miracle of the stomach from St. Therese. Father also told us of Mother's miracle in 1998 when she let go of her braces. She would not ask Our Lord for the healing, but God healed her. Every healing is a call to faith. A particular gift of Mother's is to pray for people who want to have children.

Miracles are part of the Christian faith. The supernatural enters into the natural. The Gospels are filled with miracles. Sometimes we think God is not interested in our lives and problems. God does not watch us from a distance. He is with us. There are miracles all around us. The greatest miracle is the Holy Eucharist. The Pope is asking us to focus our attention on the Eucharist in this Year of the Eucharist. This network is an ongoing miracle.

What brought people to the Catholic Faith? Father gave us stories on conversions of people. How many times have you given up hope and the Lord rescued you? You distanced yourself from God and decided to come back and felt the Lord's grace. We can choose to reject His life, His love, etc., and go on making up our own moral guides. We are not sufficient to ourselves; we are dependent on God. He gives us everything that we need if we turn to Him and make Him a part of our lives.  God is not offended when we turn to the help of a Saint in a particular need. In fact He wants to draw attention to that Saint's virtue. He wants our attention to imitate some virtue of that Saint.

Mother Angelica wants everyone to know Jesus and to know His love.

HEALING SERVICE – FATHER JOSEPH

Father began by reading the Letter to the Hebrews. "Without faith it is impossible to please God." He who comes to God must believe that God exists. Do you seek God? We are seeking One who brought us into existence. It is a great quest to seek God. Years ago we had different things. God revealed things to us. We have come to know more of His love for us, His love for all of mankind. To be at home with the Lord is a much better thing. We see God more clearly as we experience God in our lives.  He rewards those who seek Him. What is the reward – Himself. So God rewards us with new life, new hope, deeper love and all that comes from Himself.

Father gave us examples of how people have changed their lives and sought God. It is a great quest of humanity. We have come from God, made by God to love Him more and to serve Him better.

We inherited original sin; we need a Healer, the Divine Healer. The Lord will give each of us something. No one comes away without receiving in return. The Lord rewards those who seek Him. If you come with a little tiny speck of faith, the Lord will give you what you need. Maybe not all that we want, but all that we need. The Sacred Heart reminds us of the infinity of His love. Trust in Him. When you come up to receive the individual blessing, I ask you to do three things: 1) to bring your own burdens and wounds; 2) to remember someone that you know and love in need of the Lord's healing; and 3) pray for each other.
