Reparation And Apology
Program
Compiled by Rev. Francis
Larkin, SS.CC.
THE
FOLLOWING PROGRAM may be used in church, convent, school or home. In
church, it
is usually carried out as a public or parish program, with recitation
of the
Rosary for peace; exposition of the Blessed Sacrament; acts of faith,
reparation and apology; Benediction; and the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass
in
honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. For the Mass, the first Eucharistic
prayer
(canon) may be used, as the congregation unites itself with the priest
in
imploring Jesus for pardon and mercy.
The
program may also be done privately in church, by groups or individuals
before
the Tabernacle. In this case, since there is no Benediction or Mass, a
Spiritual Communion may be made in the spirit of reparation.
Finally,
the program may be used by religious communities, by schools, by
organizations,
by the family in the home, or by people living alone. If practical,
other
families, relatives and friends should be invited, in order to give the
Sacred
Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary more prayers and
penances.
It is
suggested that, if possible, the home program be carried out before a
shrine,
picture, statue or image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and the
Immaculate Heart
of Mary, (or of Our Lady under any of her titles), with lighted candles
and
flowers. Appropriate hymns my be sung before, during and after the
program.
Why not
contact your pastor, and ask him to have a "Program of Reparation And
Apology" in your church. It can draw down many blessings, graces, and
God's mercy on your area.
Reparation
For Abortion Murders
There are
many terrible crimes being committed daily, that would draw down upon
us the
just wrath of Almighty God, unless sufficient reparation
is made for them. One of the most
detestable and heinous of these sins is the wholesale "slaughter of the
innocents," through the mass abortion murders of unborn infants in
their
mothers' wombs.
With
such
an utter disregard for the priceless gift of life, through the
"legalizing" by the U.S. Supreme Court of this cruel ruthless war of
extermination against defenseless babies, how can we in America
expect God's blessings on
our nation?
In
addition to the abortion murders, there is much widespread moral decay,
such as
increased divorces, contraception, immodesty in dress, soul-corrupting
pornography, and now the rising tide of Satanism and public blasphemy
spreading
throughout our land.
Truly, much
love, prayer and reparation must be offered to Almighty God if we are
not to
experience the punishments that we justly deserve for our nation's sins.
PART I
- THE ROSARY
Recitation
of five decades of the Rosary, (preferably the Sorrowful Mysteries),
through
the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, the Queen of Peace, in
reparation
for sin, which is the basic cause of war: and for true and lasting
world peace.
PRIEST OR
LEADER: His Holiness, Pope Paul VI, tells us: "We can see nothing more
appropriate or efficacious for the whole human family than to raise its
voice
amid its many stresses and difficulties, and to pray to the Mother of
God, whom
we also address as the Queen of Peace, to be generous as a good mother
with her
gifts." The Holy Father urges us to frequently say the Rosary, "so
abundant in its fruits, so efficacious
in averting evils and calamities." (Rosary Encyclical, September
15, 1966)
(Here
follows the recitation of the Rosary, with short meditations on the
Sorrowful
Mysteries, related to the Eucharist or current problems. Suggested
meditations
to be said by the priest or leader):
1. The
Agony of Jesus In The Garden
Of Olives.
Jesus revealed to Saint Margaret Mary: "It
was here that I suffered more
than in the rest of My Passion."
The Heart of Jesus was breaking as He foresaw how many souls would
reject His
love and mercy, especially in the Eucharist. "Agony of heart" - the
worst of agonies! Let us ask pardon. through the Sorrowful and
Immaculate Heart
of Mary, for all the sins of coldness,
neglect, indifference, ingratitude, lukewarmness and especially
rejection,
committed against Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.
2. Jesus
is Scourged At The Pillar. Every sin against the human body
which is a
"temple of the Holy Spirit"
is a blow against the Body of Christ
delivered by members Of His Mystical Body. By suffering the cruel
scourging,
Jesus made reparation for all our sins of the flesh. Through the
Sorrowful and
Immaculate Heart of Mary, let us ask pardon for the many sins against
purity in
thought, word and deed, being committed today.
3. Jesus
is Crowned With Thorns. Jesus is being dethroned everywhere
today, because of
the arrogant pride of so many souls. His rights over persons, families,
nations
and public life are being denied and mocked. Through the Sorrowful and
Immaculate Heart of Mary, our Queen and Mother, let us ask pardon for
the many
times we have placed a crown of thorns on the Most Sacred Head of
Jesus, or
around His Sacred Heart, through
our sins of disobedience and pride.
4. Jesus
Carries His Cross. God carries the cross of a criminal! By this
act of
humility, Jesus - the God-Man - made atonement for the sins of
rejection of the
cross by so many souls. Through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of
Mary, let
us ask pardon for the cowardice of so many souls - especially ourselves
- who
refuse to accept, with humility and resignation to God's holy will, the
crosses, trials and sufferings He sends
us for our own sanctification and salvation; and for others.
5. Jesus
Dies On The Cross. The Heart of Jesus was opened with a lance
after His
redeeming death on the Cross, and there gushed forth the saving
Blood and water. In every Mass, the
renewal of Calvary, the Most Sacred
Heart of
Jesus, is again opened to all poor sinners. Through the Sorrowful and
Immaculate Heart of Mary, let us promise never to miss the Holy
Sacrifice of
the Mass through our own fault; let us offer every Mass we attend for
the
conversion of all poor sinners; and let us thank Jesus for His great
love and
mercy in dying on the Cross for love of us and to save us from the
fires of
Hell.
PART II - APOLOGY
Exposition
of the Blessed Sacrament, during which acts of faith, reparation,
apology and
trust, plus pleas for mercy, are recited, (or said privately before the
Tabernacle or at home).
1.
ACTS OF FAITH
PRIEST OR
LEADER: We begin with expressions of faith in the presence of
the Three Persons
of the Most Blessed Trinity. Let us say, 3 times:
ALL:
"Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; as it
was
in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen. ..(3 times)
LEADER:
Let us tell Jesus that we truly believe in His real
presence in the Blessed
Sacrament. Make this act of faith an act of atonement for all
those who deny His real presence in the Holy Eucharist. Let us say, 3
times:
ALL:
"0 Sacrament Most Holy, 0 Sacrament Divine, all praise and all
thanksgiving be every moment Thine!" (3 times)
LEADER:
After each of the following acts of faith, let us answer as did the man
in the
Gospel: "Lord, I do believe; help thou my unbelief!"
ALL:
"Lord, I do believe; help thou my unbelief!"
LEADER:
Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Holy Eucharist, Body and
Soul,
Humanity and Divinity.
ALL:
"Lord, I do believe; help thou my unbelief!"
LEADER:
Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Blessed Sacrament out of
love for
me and all sinners.
ALL:
"Lord, I do believe; help thou my unbelief!"
LEADER:
Jesus, I believe that in the Blessed Sacrament Your Eucharistic Heart
beats
steadily out of love for us, as it does in Heaven.
ALL:
"Lord, I do believe; help thou my unbelief!"
LEADER:
Jesus, I believe that in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass You are
offering
Yourself to the Father in our name, in adoration, thanksgiving,
petition and atonement.
ALL:
"Lord, I do believe; help thou my unbelief!"
LEADER:
Jesus, I believe that the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is
the most holy, the most
sacred, and the most powerful means of loving and adoring the Most
Blessed
Trinity.
ALL:
"Lord, I do believe; help thou my unbelief!"
LEADER:
Let us say 3 times:
ALL:
Eucharistic Heart of Jesus, I believe in Thy love for me! (3 times)
ALL:
Eucharistic Heart of Jesus, I place my trust in Thee! (3 times)
ALL:
Eucharistic Heart of Jesus, burning with love for me, inflame my heart
with
love for Thee! (3 times)
ALL: Jesus,
meek and humble of heart, make my heart like unto Thine! (3 times)
ALL:
Jesus, Mary, Joseph, I love you; save souls! (3 times)
LEADER:
Now, let us thank the Merciful Heart of Jesus for His many
manifestations of
love for us in the Blessed Sacrament; for all the Masses
we have shared in, the Holy Communions
received, the visits and Holy Hours made; and for His constant love day
and
night. In thanksgiving, and in a spirit
of atonement for our lack of gratitude, let us say:
ALL: May
the Heart of Jesus, in the Most Blessed Sacrament, be praised, adored
and
loved, with grateful affection, in all the tabernacles of the world,
and in the
hearts of all men, even to the end of time! Amen.
2.

3.
PLEAS FOR MERCY
LEADER:
Let us now implore God's mercy on us.
ALL:
Spare Thy people, O Lord; be not angry with us forever! (3 times)
ALL: Most
Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us! (3 times)
LEADER:
Lord, we also apologize for the blasphemous black masses being
celebrated throughout
our country, in which you are so grievously insulted, and which make a
mockery
of the most sacred act of our religion - the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. We
apologize, too,
for the fact that so many souls, in all walks of life, especially among
our
youth, are turning to the worship of Satan, instead of to You, their
Creator.
For this we ask Your pardon and mercy.
ALL:
"Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do!"
LEADER:
We apologize especially for all the widespread public blasphemy now
sweeping
our land; and for those responsible for this in national publications,
on
television, in stage shows and in motion pictures. We apologize,
likewise, for
all the public insults, ridicule, and mockery being heaped upon You,
upon Your
Blessed Mother and ours, upon the Saints, upon Your Mystical Body on
earth -
the Catholic Church, upon belief in You and upon religion in general.
For this,
we ask Your pardon and mercy.
ALL:
"Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do!"
LEADER:
For the agony you underwent in the Garden of Olives at the
foreknowledge of all
these sins, and so many others known to You alone, we offer You, in
reparation,
dear Jesus, our own agony of heart, our worries, our fears, our
concerns, and
all our spiritual, mental and material problems and crosses. We offer
them to
You in union with the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary. We ask,
through
our prayers and sufferings, offered in
union
with Your own merits through the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, for the
conversion
of all poor sinners; a return to morality in family and public life;
and for
true and lasting peace in homes, in our cities and countries throughout
the
world. For these
intentions, in honor of the five wounds Jesus suffered for us, let us
say:
ALL: Most
Sacred Heart of Jesus, Thy Kingdom come, through Mary! (5 times)
LEADER:
Let us conclude the prayers of reparation and apology by saying the
beautiful
Fatima Eucharistic Prayers, given by the Angel of Portugal
to the three little shepherd children
in 1916, one year before Our Blessed Mother appeared to them, to give
to the
world Almighty God's "Peace Plan From Heaven:"
ALL:
"0, my God, I believe in, I adore, I hope in, and I love You. I ask
pardon
for all those who do not believe in, do not adore, do not hope in, and
do not
love you!" (3 times)
"Most
Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I adore You profoundly. I
offer You
the Most Precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ,
present in all the tabernacles
of the world, in reparation for all the outrages, sacrileges, and
indifferences
by which He is offended. And through the infinite merits of His Most
Sacred
Heart and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg of You the conversion of
poor sinners."
(3 times)
ONE
NATION UNDER GOD
"Blessed
is the nation whose God is the Lord." (Psalm 33:12)
LEADER:
Let us now pray together for God's guidance for our President, and for
all
government officials:
ALL: We
pray Thee, 0 Almighty and Eternal God, Who through Jesus Christ hast
revealed
Thy glory to all nations, to preserve the works of Thy mercy;
that Thy Church, being spread
through the whole world, may continue, with unchanging faith, in the
confession
of Thy Name.
We pray Thee, O God of
might, wisdom, and justice, through Whom
authority is rightly administered, laws are enacted, and judgment
decreed, assist,
with Thy Holy Spirit of counsel and fortitude, the President of these
United
States, that his administration may be conducted in righteousness, and
be
eminently useful to Thy people over whom he presides, by encouraging
due
respect for virtue and religion; by a faithful
execution of the laws in justice and mercy; AND BY RESTRAINING VICE AND
IMMORALITY.
Let the light of Thy Divine wisdom direct the deliberations of the
Congress,
and shine forth in all the proceedings and laws framed for our rule and
government; so that they may tend to the preservation of peace, the
promotion
of national happiness, the increase of industry, sobriety, and useful
knowledge, and may perpetuate
to us the blessings of equal liberty .
We pray
for his Excellency the Governor of this State, for the members of the
Assembly,
for all judges, magistrates, and other officers who are appointed to
guard our
political welfare; that they may be enabled, by Thy powerful
protection, to
discharge the duties of their respective stations with honesty and
ability.
We
recommend likewise to Thy unbounded mercy all our brethren and
fellow-citizens,
throughout the United States, that they may be preserved in union and
in that
peace which the world cannot give; and, after enjoying the blessings of
this
life, be admitted to those which are eternal. Amen!
(Abridged
from a prayer by Archbishop Carroll, AD 1800 for the United States.)
LEADER:
Let us again implore God's mercy on our sinful country:
O
MERCIFUL GOD, we cry to Thee for pardon and for mercy. We are "an
unbelieving and perverse generation." We are disobedient, disloyal and
ungrateful
to Thee. We have excluded Thee from our homes, our schools, our
business
places. We are no longer worthy to be called Thy children. But Merciful
God,
spare America!
Forgive us! Save us from the scourge which we have deserved. Teach us
Thy Law,
and move our wills to serve Thee, henceforth. Merciful God, please
spare America!
(This
sort of prayer moved the merciful God to save a sinful race from utter
ruin on
three outstanding occasions: Prayers of Daniel. Mordecai, and Judith.)
LEADER:
Finally, unworthy though we are but trusting in God’s mercy, let us ask
His
blessings and peace on our President, our nation, and on the whole
world:
God
Almighty -Lord of Nations, Bless our Country's President.
Give him
strength in tribulations, Help him guide our wondrous land;
May he
always seek Thy guidance In these times so turbulent.
God
Almighty - Lord of Nations, Bless all chiefs of governments.
Give them
strength in tribulations. Help them guide their Fatherlands;
May they
always seek Thy guidance In these times so turbulent.
God
Almighty - Lord of Nations. Bless us all with lasting peace.
Give us
strength in tribulations; May Thy blessings never cease.
We shall
always sing Thy praise - HOLY, HOLY, GOD OUR LORD.
PART III - BENEDICTION
Benediction
of the Most Blessed Sacrament now follows. The "Divine Praises" in
reparation should be said without fail. If time and circumstances
permit,
either the "Litany Of The Most Sacred Heart Of Jesus," or the
"Litany Of The Most Precious Blood Of Jesus," (both very appropriate
to the program) , may also be included.
(If the
program is conducted privately before the Tabernacle or at home, a hymn
in
honor of the Blessed Sacrament may be sung here.)
PART
IV - HOLY MASS
The Holy
Sacrifice of the Mass, in reparation to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus,
is now
offered as a fitting and perfect climax to the public or parish
programs. All
are urged to receive Holy Communion in reparation, as requested by Our
Lady at Fatima.
If possible,
the Votive Mass in honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is used. This
Mass was
requested by Our Divine Lord, Himself, when He appeared
to Saint Margaret Mary. Its special
characteristic is that of reparation for all the coldness,
indifference, hatred
and sacrileges shown to the Heart of Jesus in the Eucharist. At the
same time,
Jesus requested His friends to unite themselves with His act of
atonement in
the Mass, by receiving Him in Holy Communion in the same spirit of
reparation.
This is the most effective way to offer reparation to the Father, for
it is in
union with the perfect act of atonement of the Son of God - our
Mediator and
Victim and Redeemer.
(Other
appropriate Masses are those honoring the Holy Spirit, the Most
Precious Blood
of Jesus, the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and that for the Forgiveness of
Sin.)
The
Communions of Reparation are a most important part of this service. Our
Lord
specifically requested such Communions from St. Margaret Mary and other
chosen
souls. At Fatima, the Mother of God also asked
for Communions of Reparation. Our Merciful Saviour says that such
Communions,
being acts of pure love, are most powerful in averting Divine Justice,
and
drawing down His mercy.
Because
the Reparation And Apology Program is considered to be a special
liturgical
service, even being termed a "pilgrimage of reparation," the
privilege of receiving Holy Communion twice in the same day is
generally
granted for these programs, either by the Bishop of the diocese or the
pastor
of the parish involved.
(If this
program of reparation is made privately without a priest, unite
yourselves in
spirit with all the Masses being celebrated throughout
the world at that moment. You may
join Jesus and the priests in spirit by reading one of the Eucharistic
prayers
from the Missalette.)
During
the Mass, a short homily usually is or may be given, stressing the
importance
of our frequent participation in it. By "substituting" ourselves for
others who refuse to attend Mass, we can help obtain their conversion.
Likewise,
people are encouraged to have the Enthronement of the Sacred Heart of
Jesus in
their homes, as an act of reparation and to obtain needed graces. Also,
they
are encouraged to say the daily and family Rosary, to "make Jesus
present
in the home" by prayer, for "Where two or
more are gathered in my name, there I am
also."
