We give Thanksgiving for the year that has past 2024 and we offer prayers for God’s blessings as we begin 2025. We also make new Year’s resolutions; like losing weight. But the best New Year’s resolution is to grow stronger in faith, hope and love; Follow the Jesus Way.

  • L — Love your neighbor, the sick, and homeless.

  • U — You are a child of God, a priest, prophet and king.

  • T — Talents from our God! Sharee your talents with others in order to buildup The Kingdom of God.

  • I — Increase n faith, hope and love.

Saint of the Month

January 1 – Mary, the Holy Mother of God, by Fr. Dean Danos

Mary’s role in our salvation as Mother of our Savior, Jesus Christ is celebrated today. Scripture tells us that when Mary went to visit her cousin, Elizabeth. Elizabeth greeted her as the “Mother of my Lord” before Mary shared her incredible news. So full of grace was Mary, that Elizabeth couldn’t help but notice. As we celebrate Mary’s role as Mother of Jesus, we also celebrate Maryas our heavenly Mother, and Mother of the Church. As mothers care for their children, Mary cares for us, too.

Apparition of the Month: Our Lady of Hope, Pontmain

The following is taken from the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Pontmain: https://sanctuaire-pontmain.com/le-recit-de-lapparition/

“It was January 17, 1871, when France was defeated by Prussia. For 3 hours, Eugène and Joseph Barbedette, Françoise Richer and Jeanne-Marie Lebossé will  contemplate the "Beautiful Lady" dressed in a blue dress dotted with stars, with a black veil on her head and a gold crown with a red border, on her feet blue slippers with a gold buckle. She stretches her hands out in front of the children and smiles. She appears in a triangle formed by three large gold stars in the sky.

The inhabitants of the hamlet rushed to the barn and began to pray with the Sisters. When the priest, Father Michel Guérin, arrived, a blue oval with four extinguished candles surrounded the Beautiful Lady, a small red cross appeared on her chest at the heart. During the rosary, the Beautiful Lady slowly grew as the Ave Marias were said. The oval also grew and the stars multiplied on her dress and around her. At the beginning of the Magnificat, a white banner unfurled below the oval and gold letters were written one after the other. The message continued during the litanies, the Inviolata and the Salve Regina. At that moment, it was complete.

BUT PRAY MY CHILDREN GOD WILL ANSWER YOU IN A SHORT TIME.MY SON LET HIMSELF BE TOUCHED

At the beginning of the hymn “Mother of Hope”, Mary will raise her hands to shoulder height and move her fingers to the rhythm of the hymn.

After another hymn whose refrain is "Parce Domine" her face is marked by an unspeakable sadness. A bright red cross appears before her, carrying the crucified in a dark red. At the top of the cross, a white crosspiece with a name written in blood-red letters:  JESUS-CHRIST; Mary takes the cross in both hands and presents it to the children. A small star comes to light the candles of the oval. We pray in silence while crying. We sing "Ave Maris Stella". The red crucifix disappears; Mary resumes the attitude of the beginning and smiles again.

Two small white crosses appear on his shoulders.

During the evening prayer that follows, a white veil from below slowly rises in front of the Holy Virgin. Then everything disappears. "It's all over," say the children.

Everyone returns home with peace of mind.”

Virtue-Habit of the Month

Hope: In the times we live, it seems hope becomes a greater struggle in daily life.  But what is hope?  What is the grace of hope?  As we begin this new year, let us center our lives on Christ who is our hope.
